WATCH: Head of sustainability at the alternative asset platform chats to BusinessGreen about his work to ramp up investments that deliver positive environmental outcomes

John Alker is head of sustainability at Legal & General Capital, where he works to align the company's investments with positive environmental and social impact, working across sectors including housing, specialist commercial property, venture capital and clean energy. Alker boasts almost 20 years' experience in the sustainability sector, including stints leading policy and advocacy for the UK Green Building Council and working in public affairs for WWF-UK. He is also a trustee of the Quality of Life Foundation.

At BusinessGreen's recent Net Zero Festival 2023, Alker joined several leading figures as part of a panel discussion on the crucial role of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors in modern finance.

Following that discussion, Alker sat down with BusinessGreen analyst Stuart Stone to discuss his main takeaways from the Net Zero Festival, how to unlock the monumental scale of finance and investment needed to deliver the net zero transition, and his own current work at Legal & General Capital towards this aim.

Their conversation - which forms part of a series of Greenhouse interviews with speakers from the 2023 Net Zero Festival - can be watched back in full below.

While this year's event may have drawn to a close, the Net Zero Festival will be back in force again in 2024 - so sign up here to stay in the loop on the plans for next year's event.
